Immigration – The Reality

We’ve been told for years that immigration is beneficial to Britain, its economy and its people. Yet a Lords report has proven all the governments claims on immigration to be wildly inaccurate. Furthermore the report has acknowledged what ordinary British citizens have known for some time, that immigration has a detrimental effect on the existing population and benefits only the immigrants themselves.

powell Two weeks on Sunday will be the 40th anniversary of what is probably Britain’s most well known and controversial speech regarding immigration. Enoch Powell’s ‘Rivers of Blood speech.’ This speech is largely remembered as being a racist, and anti black speech and generally discredited as consisting of hyperbole and far right propaganda.

However, having grown up and lived in many ‘culturally diverse’ areas, and never having really given much credence to the famous speech or even heard nor read it, I find that looking it over for the first time, much of it now appears to ring true.

Enoch Powell warned that:

“…not throughout Great Britain, perhaps, but in the areas that are already undergoing the total transformation to which there is no parallel in a thousand years of English history.

Today that transformation is clear to any who wish to see it. Never before have so many residents of the nations capital been born outside of Britain. A third of Londoners were born outside of the UK, the British born population of London has been declining rapidly. 33.3% of Londoners are now classed as non white. 32.2% of those that live in Birmingham are classed as non white, in Leicester that figure is 37.4%. In Wolverhampton, where Powell was once an MP, 23.5% of his former consistency are classed as non white. This is of course a startling change in just 40 years, and certainly never seen before in Britain.

“For reasons which they could not comprehend, and in pursuance of a decision by default, on which they were never consulted, they found themselves made strangers in their own country.”

For people living in those areas during those times it was a very strange experience, going from a majority to a minority in a generation. To see a whole neighbourhood change and not just the faces, but businesses too and the whole culture of the area.

Powell also estimated that by the year 2000, there would be 5-7 million immigrants and their descendents living in the UK, making up approximately one tenth of the population. He was pretty much spot on and indeed 1 in 10 people in the UK today are non white.

Today more British born whites emigrate than ever before, hundreds of thousands per year, virtually the same rate as those coming into Britain.

“They found their wives unable to obtain hospital beds in childbirth, their children unable to obtain school places, their homes and neighbourhoods changed beyond recognition,”

There is at the moment a maternity crisis within the NHS, whether or not that is related to immigration is debatable but as the Lords report points out, immigrants may pay taxes, but like everyone else they also use the services they are entitled too. Of course immigrants tend to have lower paid jobs than British born workers.

As for schools, again there is a problem with school places, a problem that the Government keeps trying to resolve by making sure that the schools have less and less choice on pupil selection.

“…at work they found that employers hesitated to apply to the immigrant worker the standards of discipline and competence required of the native-born worker; they began to hear, as time went by, more and more voices which told them that they were now the unwanted.”

Three quarters of all new jobs in the UK over the past decade have gone to immigrants. Positive discrimination, although illegal, is rife in many organisations as they struggle to meet the quotas needed to prove that they are not ‘institutionally racist’.

Hundreds of thousands of school leavers each year discover they are unable to find any meaningful work and have little in the way of career prospects in Britain’s so called modern and dynamic employment sector. Unemployment amongst the native population continues to rise, whilst millions of immigrants arrive each year to work.

The native workforce are becoming the unwanted ones that Powell spoke of; frustrated at being unable to find work, whilst the influx of foreign workers proves there is work available, just not to them.

The story of the woman in Powell’s speech may have seemed far fetched to most people 40 years ago, but for any white people that live/lived in largely immigrant areas, or have ventured into such areas, the description will be very familiar.

“She is becoming afraid to go out. Windows are broken. She finds excreta pushed through her letterbox. When she goes to the shops, she is followed by children, charming, wide-grinning piccaninnies. They cannot speak English, but one word they know. ‘Racialist’, they chant. When the new Race Relations bill is passed, this woman is convinced she will go to prison. And is she so wrong? I begin to wonder.

Nowadays though, those children do not smile. They are much more likely to display anger and aggression than mirth. There are twice as many racist attacks against whites each year, than against non whites. Four times more whites are murdered in racist attacks each year, than any other ethnic group.

Powell was right, few white people complain for fear of being branded a racist. They just move away.

The most prophetic point that Powell made in his speech was that he believed that although many immigrants wanted to integrate, most did not. He also noted that some immigrants had a vested interest in promoting racial and religious divisions.

“…with a view to the exercise of actual domination, first over fellow-immigrants and then over the rest of the population”

_44537340_comp226_170 Repeated investigations, inquiries and think tanks have stated that there are deep divisions within British society, and that these divisions are caused by immigrants not wanting to integrate. Today’s religious extremists and home grown terrorists exemplify this. They are so far removed from ordinary Britons they see nothing wrong in wholesale cold blooded murder of them.

Many immigrant communities are so far removed from British society that they either ignore or are oblivious to British laws and ignorant of the language. Worse they bring parts of their culture, and customs that have no place in Britain or are criminals themselves.

The argument for the virtually unchecked immigration policy that Britain has at the moment is based on the fact that Britain benefits from it, but this report has shown what many in Britain today already know, those supposed benefits in reality are either hollow or non existent.

Apparently the influx of foreign workers supplements our existing workers, creates jobs and fills vacancies that would otherwise have been unfilled. The report however points out that most workers that enter Britain are unskilled and they do not fill the job vacancies, the number of which have remained the same despite the flood of workers.

The billions spent teaching immigrants English and treating diseases that are brought in such as HIV and tuberculosis could be spent benefiting British born citizens and plug the gaps in education and the NHS.

The report stated:

“There has been little or no positive impact on the living standards of the existing population.”

For those that are competing with the immigrants for the low paid jobs, it is clear that immigration is having a negative impact.

Despite all this, the Government is refusing to change its current immigration policy, Gordon Brown has already dismissed the report. I am sure that soon the usual suspects will be wheeled out to start bandying around words like racism, xenophobic and insular.

After his speech Powell became something of a pariah among the political elite, yet received widespread support from the public. A popular cry amongst the far right has been ‘Enoch was right’, yet time is proving that he may well have been.

The question is no longer whether Enoch was right, but why are successive governments ignoring the evidence about immigration?
