A British teacher has been charged in Sudan with insulting religion, inciting hatred and showing contempt for religious beliefs.
Well it isn’t really much of a surprise is it? She’s white, Christian and living in a predominantly Muslim country. Sooner or later she was going to get accused of something, remember this is the country that is carrying out genocide on a scale not seen since WWII. I suppose that the fact that she is also British added to it. I am sure some narrow minded cleric somewhere in the Sudan is whooping for joy at having stuck one on ‘The Empire’ and clawed back some revenge for colonialism. Deep down though he knows the truth, the sad fact is that the Sudan, like most of Africa, was actually better off under colonialism than they are today, and that must eat him up inside.
You can see the anger and the frustration coming out in this statement by the Sudanese Assembly of Ulemas:
“What has happened was not haphazard or carried out of ignorance, but rather a calculated action and another ring in the circles of plotting against Islam,”
Yes, they are absolutely right. With colonialism and the crusades having ended in failure, we are now sending middle aged teachers out to Islamic lands to further undermine the Muslim faith by naming teddy bears after the prophet Mohammed!
To think that these men are the top echelon of Sudanese learning! Britain should now take an extreme interest in Darfur and its former colony.
