There’s been a lot going on in Iran, apparently it is 29 years since the ‘revolution’ that has made Iran the…er.. non entity that it is today. It was also something of a joint celebration, the military goliath that is Iran was showing off a trophy of a recent victory over the ‘Imperious and Voracious Armies of the West’, in fact Iran’s greatest military achievement since the days of the Sassanid Empire.
What am I talking about? Why the capture of a British dinghy of course! Whilst the likes of Britain can only celebrate such hollow victories as the defeat of Hitler or Napoleon or of the Spanish Armada. Iran’s Glorious Revolutionary Guard managed to nick a dinghy from a country that they dare not go to war with.
They even indulged in a bit of role playing, having some of them dress as British Officers no less!
Hundreds of thousands cheered as the boat, with messages extolling the glories of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard tied to its side, passed by.
Hundreds of thousands? I can only assume it was the kind of turn out that Stalin and Saddam Hussein were famous for, and that the person who cheered the least or ceased clapping first was taken away and shot. For surely the people descended from one of the greatest Empire’s that the world has ever seen, a people that held the Roman Empire at bay, surely they cannot view this as a worthy victory? Surely they aren’t that stupid?
Still I suppose a nation and people so lacking of anything to be proud of for the past millennia will clutch at anything.
Apparently on the next float was Mrs Kiyanfar, who was displaying a pair of trousers taken from an Iraqi soldier during the Iran-Iraq war.
